The Fire at Charlotte |
We learn that the principal loss to the Quartermaster's
Department, by the fire at Charlotte, was in corn, of which about forty
thousand bushels were stored in the warehouses. Some ten thousand
bushels were saved in a damaged condition. A quantity of sugar was also
burnt, but very little, if any, bacon. |
{The 30,000 bushels of corn lost would have
filled 200 cars, which would make up 20 trains of 10 cars each} |
