North Carolina Railroad |
The stockholders of this Road held their
annual meeting at Greensborough on the 9th inst. Dr. W. R. Holt, of
Davidson, presided, and Ralph Gorrell, Esq., of Guilford, appeared as
State proxy. |
The following gentlemen were elected
Directors on the part of the stockholders: Thomas Webb, of Orange;
Paul C. Cameron, of Orange; Giles Mebane, of Alamance, and John L.
Morehead, of Mecklenburg. The following State Directors were in
attendance: John Everett, R. S. Tucker, John Berry, W. C. Means, D. A.
Davis, C. P. Mendenhall, Albert Johnston, and John D. Flanner. |
Among the orders made we learn there was
one to build a shed at the depot at Raleigh, for the protection of
passengers. We hope this will be done at once. It has been too long
neglected already. Such an improvement is due to the travelling
public, and especially to the ladies. We hope soon to see the shed
erected and the depot grounds properly ditched. |
We learn that the various reports showed
the Road to be in as good condition as could be expected under the
circumstances. |
No changes are made in the officers of the
Road; so the predictions of the Destructive prints that Gov. Vance had
so arranged the State Directory as to censure the proscription of
certain officers, have not been verified. |
