Railroad Accident |
On Tuesday evening last, an accident
occurred at the Central {North Carolina RR} Depot.
The engine and cars had been removed from the track which the
Charlotte train was to take, but the latches had not been changed. At
the hour for the arrival of the Western train it came dashing on, -- a
very imprudent thing at a Depot, -- when instead of keeping its proper
track, it came swiftly upon the cars and engine just removed out of
its way, as it was thought, smashing the cars severely, and a negro
man belonging to Mr. Barbee attempting to escape, was knocked down by
the tender and run over. One arm was so mutilated that it had to be
amputated, besides injuries on his body. |
