Wood! The Railroad |
We alluded last week to the suffering
which must fall on the people of this City, if our Railroads failed to
bring us the usual supply of wood. |
We are glad to record, that we have
learned since, that a small portion of wood has been brought in upon
the Raleigh & Gaston Road, and that ten car loads came in the
other day on the North Carolina Railroad. |
We could not for a moment believe, that
such gentlemen as Dr. Hawkins and Mr. Webb, the Presidents of the two
Railroads, as well as the Directors and officers of the Roads, could
refuse so reasonable and necessary a demand, to allow wood to be
brought upon the Roads; and surely the military authorities must see
the necessity of preventing the seizure of wood on the Road, designed
for the people of this City. |
