The Mails |
The mails have been sadly out of joint for
several months, and they grow worse. At the time we write, we believe
there are three western mails due here. The failures on the North
Carolina Railroad are becoming exceedingly vexatious. The amount of
business on the Road is too great for its means, or the officers of
the Road lack the skill and the energy to keep up its operations. |
We are really afraid the trains will stop
altogether, if something is not done soon. The Directors and
stockholders ought to look to this matter. That Road needs the best
Railroad skill and management of any Road in the country, and it ought
to be secured at any cost. The excessive business, however, and the
length of the Road render it exceedingly difficult to manage in these
times, in the hands of any one. The present officers, we judge, are
doing all in their power. The continued irregularity of the mails will
account to our subscribers for the delay in getting the Standard
regularly. |
