N. C. Railroad |
We have been furnished by an official
source with the following statement showing the receipt from
passengers and freight on the N. C. Railroad for seven months past,
compared with the receipts for corresponding months of last year: |

Although the above shows an increase in
revenue of over $532,000, we do not think it a matter to cause much
felicity on the part of the public at large, for no doubt the most of
the increase is owing to the enormous charges for freight and
passengers. Railroads, like speculators, are striving to make all they
can out of the necessities of the times. We record the
"statement," but are unwilling to accord any congratulation
on the showing. The revenue has been increased but the accommodations
have been decreased. |
