From the Richmond Examiner

April 26, 1861

Navy Yard Cannon
   Some fifteen or twenty heavy cannon reached Richmond on yesterday from Portsmouth, by way of the Norfolk & Petersburg, South Side and {Richmond &} Danville Railroads. They were {not} brought by way of the Richmond & Petersburg Railroad, on account of the great difficulty which would have attended their transfer from one depot to the other. They were all spiked, but will easily be restored.
   {Another article on the same day reports that the steamer "Empire" had brought up a barge from Norfolk the day before containing more guns.}
