Arrival of Ordnance at Charleston |
Two Dahlgren guns of the
heaviest calibre arrived yesterday by the Northeastern Railroad,
from Richmond, Va.
They were made at the Anderson Works, in Richmond, by the special order of Governor Pickens. The Dahlgren is one of the
most formidable and effective weapons made. These two will be put
immediately into proper battery. Five ten-inch mortars also
accompanied the Dahlgren, and two more, we learn, are on the way, and
may be expected in a day or two. Fifty thousand pounds of powder were
also received yesterday, from Pensacola, Fla., and twenty thousand pounds from
Wilmington, N. C. From what we are able to learn, we will have in a few days,
ready for an emergency, from three hundred thousand to four hundred
thousand pounds of powder. |
