Locomotive Explosion |
On Tuesday when the train coming north was
at Salisbury, beyond Grand Junction {on the
Memphis & Charleston RR} the boiler of the locomotive
exploded. The engine was shattered to pieces, and the engineer, John
McManus, together with the fireman, William Pilman, were instantly
killer. Both these men were residents of this city, McManus had a
family, Pitman was a single man. No person on the train was injured. {Additional

due at the Charleston railroad depot here on that night did not reach
here until yesterday morning.} |
