The Columbia South Carolinian has
been informed that there is probably at this time 100,000 bushels of
corn {about 350 car loads or 23 trains of 15
cars} and 500 boxes of bacon accumulated at Charlotte, the
northern terminus of the Charlotte & South Carolina railroad {and
the southern terminus of the North Carolina RR}.
Every depot there, including the passenger sheds and platforms, are
filled with freight, likewise much exposed. Under these circumstances
the authorities at Richmond, several days ago, ordered that no more
government freights should be taken to Charlotte, for the present. |
