According to a notice in one
of the evening papers yesterday, the communication between the two
cities of Mobile and New Orleans -- by what has been known under the
cognomen of the New Orleans and Mobile mail line, is for the present
suspended. |
Fortunately the railroad facilities
give the citizens of New Orleans and Mobile communication, though in
rather a roundabout way {New Orleans to Jackson,
to Meridian (mostly by stage coach), to Mobile}. The two cities
will now experience the want of direct railroad communication, and the
citizens will regret the failure of the New Orleans & Mobile
Railroad Company in 1854. The large vote given for the construction of
this road in that year will be duly remembered. It is not necessary to
call spirits from the vasty deep to recognize the importance of this
then projected railroad between the two cities, Mobile and New
Orleans, and its connections with the several sea-shore
villages. |
