The Federal Mercenaries at Cairo |
From the Memphis Bulletin of
Thursday last we extract the following: |
***** |
We learn that Hon. Milton
Brown, President of the Mobile & Ohio railroad, Gov. McRae, of
Mississippi, and H. Williams, of Jackson, Tenn. on hearing of the
military occupation of Cairo at Columbus yesterday, proceeded
forthwith to that city to learn in person the precise object of the
concentration of troops at Cairo, and particularly to inquire whether
any interruption of the running of the Mobile & Ohio railroad
steamboat, connecting the Mobile & Ohio road with the Illinois
Central, is meditated. President Brown was in Cairo last night, and we
shall doubtless have his views of the occupation at an early date. |
