State Road {Western
& Atlantic RR} |
We regret to learn that
immense damage has been done to this road in the neighborhood of
Resaca, Tilton and Dalton and perhaps at other places, by the recent
heavy rains. It is reported that the waters, of the ??? have submerged
the track in some places, to the depth of five feet, and that some of
the bridges across the Chickamauga have been washed away. There has
been no train through from Chattanooga, we believe, since last Friday.
Dr. Lewis, the superintendent, and Mr. Gra??ing, the master carpenter,
with a strong force, are at the scene of the disaster and will lose no
time in repairing the damage. It is thought that some eight or ten
days will yet elapse however, before the trains will resume their
regular trips. |
