The Weather -- Freshet -- Damage to Rail
Roads, &c. |
The tremendous rains which, we
hope, ceased for a while yesterday, have raised the water courses
tremendously. The Ocmulgee is booming, and shows a flood to within a
few inches as high as in the great fresh of 1840. We understand the
track of the Macon & Brunswick Road across the bottoms has been
submerged and breached in three places. The damage, however, will not
exceed $500. We are sorry to hear that two bridges on the State Road {Western
& Atlantic RR} are gone -- one the bridge over the Oostanaula,
the other not known. This will seriously interrupt the communication
with the Northwest and embarrass the provision trade. |
