Florida Rail Road |
At a meeting of the Board of Directors of the Florida
Railroad Company held at Fernandina on the 7th day of November, A. D.
1857, the following resolution was adopted:
|
Whereas, The work on the Florida Railroad having advanced
to a condition which brings it in to useful connection with the
business of the interior, and the practicability of a successful
prosecution of it to the end being reasonably demonstrated, the
Company which has thus far conducted the enterprise consider that a
point has been reached where they may hope to be met by the confidence
and co-operation of the Planters and merchants of the interior.
|
Therefore Resolved, That the Secretary be directed
to invite subscriptions to the Stocks of the Company upon the same
terms as heretofore, and to take such steps as may afford the most
convenient opportunity to the inhabitants of the several interested
counties to take Stock.

In pursuance of the foregoing resolution notice is hereby
given that the books of the Company are permanently open at Fernandina
where subscriptions may be made either in person or by letter, the
amount of the present assessment being $10.00 on each share of
$100.00. This Company is the owner of town sites of Fernandina and
Cedar Key, and also 750,000 acres of land, property which had been
appraised at over $2,000,000, and it is believed that a further
assessment of from $8.00 to $10.00 per share will be sufficient to
finish the road.
