San Antonio & M. G. Railroad   {San Antonio & Mexican Gulf RR}
   As several rumors prejudicial to the regularity of the running time on this road, have obtained circulation and credit, we deem it due to justice and to the public, to state, as we do, by authority, that the schedule time is faithfully observed; the accidental delay of the cars, was a solitary exception. There is a new locomotive regularly running, the old one is undergoing repairs, which will be completed in a thorough manner, in two or three weeks.
   An additional locomotive, new and of great power, has been shipped from New York on the Brig Horace, and is probably now in port at Lavaca, if not, her arrival may be expected daily.
   This company has had many difficulties to surmount, which has met with an energy that has won success. It commands the passenger trade, but thus far, has not concentrated all the freight business; this can only be done, we understand, by a united action, so far as our city is concerned, on the part of our merchants.
   Surely, the sacrifices made by this company, the outlay of its Capital, the completion of the road to Victoria, the reduction in the price of freight from $3.50 per 100 lbs to 75 cts per 100 lbs., and even less, should entitle the company to the co-operative aid, to the extent of their freight lists, of our mercantile community.
   We confess our strong desire to see this and all similar enterprises in Western Texas show by their receipts, that they are profitable and if our merchants will, with unanimity, receive their freight at Victoria, instead of the ports on the Bay, this most pleasing result will be obtained.
