The Raiding Party |
We learn from a gentleman who
is connected with the railroad, this morning, that the Yankee raiders,
who are on their way to Yazoo City from their raid on the Mobile &
Ohio road, tapped the Mississippi Central at Winona Station on
Saturday evening, and advanced down the road to West Station; and on
yesterday evening, about 1 o'clock, when a train left that
neighborhood, it was supposed West Station was on fire. We learn the
report that several engines and cars have been caught above, towards
Grenada, is untrue, and that there are only a few old cars that can be
got hold of by them. |
It is the same party who, a
few days since, made a raid upon the Mobile & Ohio road, and their
force being too small to accomplish anything on that road, and, in
fact, would soon have been taken in, they turned their course, as we
predicted, for Yazoo City. |
Cols. Griffith, Wood, Adams
and others are after them with a sharp stick, and the desperadoes are
carrying nothing only what they can carry on their backs. They will
have a lively time in crossing those rivers down below Grenada, before
they get to the city. Unless they are very smart on the expedition,
they may find quarters for some time in the Confederacy. |
