Yankee Engines
Five Engines, captured by our troops in the neighborhood of Manassas and Warrenton, were brought to this city on the 3d inst., by way of the Orange {& Alexandria} railroad. Three of the five are not at all damaged; the other two are slightly injured, but can be soon put in running order. They are all of the best workmanship and of heavy capacity. Their value cannot now be less than twenty thousand dollars apiece, though in ordinary times it would not be more than twelve thousand. Extraordinary exertions had to be made to complete the trestle work across the Rappahannock river, to admit their passage over the stream, and it was finished just in time to get them out of the way of the Yankees in their late raid to Warrenton. One object of their visit is said to have been the recapture of these engines, but they were only time enough to be too late. A number of cars have also been brought across the Rappahannock, and are now safe from their former owners.
