The Cheneyville Barbecue |
The barbecue given at
Cheneyville yesterday by the citizens of that town and vicinity, in
honor of Capt. Keary's fine company which is about to depart for the
wars, was a magnificent and orderly affair, and gave infinite pleasure
and satisfaction to all the participants.
The Southern Guards (of which we have the honor of being a
member) were in attendance as invited guests, and were hospitably
received and entertained by the people of bayou Boeuf and Cheneyville.
This company were very kindly tendered by Messrs. R. S. &
T. K. Smith, the use of the cars {of the Red
River RR} for their conveyance, free of charge.
The Guards, upon returning to the Alexandria
depot, manifested their grateful acknowledgements by giving three
hearty cheers for the Messrs. Smiths and three more were added for the
noble and lovely ladies of Cheneyville. |
