A passenger train on the South
Carolina Railroad, due at Augusta on Sunday at 5 o'clock, was detained
for four or five hours by the breaking of an axle and smashing up of
five passenger cars between White's and Windsor. One negro who was
standing on the platform was killed. The loss of life it is believed
would perhaps have been far greater had not the cars been double
floored. The lower floor was torn up. The passengers came up in box
cars. |
