Fatal Railroad Accident |
Since the occupation of the
railroads by the military there has necessarily been much irregularity
among the trains. By means of the telegraph station at each depot
warning has been given along the track and accident avoided. On Friday
the {Memphis &} Charleston depot, in
this city, was deprived by authority of this means of safety; the
instrument at the depot was stopped. The very next day the
consequences that must of course follow, in the present state of
affairs, such a step took place. Yesterday a collision occurred near
Pocahontas, this side of Corinth, in which several lives were lost. At
the time we write no particulars have come to hand. |
