An Ordinance Concerning Railroads
   1. Be it ordained by the Mayor, Aldermen and inhabitants of Houston, that it shall be the duty of all Railway Companies, whose roads enter the corporate limits of the City of Houston, to construct and grade the ditches on both sides of their said road, in such manner as to carry the water collecting therein beyond the city limits.
   2. Be it ordained that it shall be the duty of, every said railway company to keep their ditches within the corporate limits of the city, at all times in proper condition, free from any rotten tie wood or other obstructions.
   3. Be it ordained that it shall be unlawful for any railway company to permit or suffer their cars or engines to stand on any street crossing a longer time than is absolutely necessary for switching before or after the arrival or departure of any train.
   4. Be it ordained, that whenever any Railroad Company shall fail to grade the ditches, on both sides of their road, as herein prescribed, or shall fail or refuse to keep them in proper condition, said company shall be liable to a fine of fifty dollars for each and every day such violation continues, to be recovered before the Mayor Recorder.
   5. That any violation of the 3d section of this ordinance shall be punished by fine of not less than ten, nor more than twenty dollars.
   6. That this ordinance shall take effect and be in force, from and after the 20th day of March, 1865 and that the City Marshal shall notify the President and Superintendent of each of the Railway Companies, whose road enters the city of the passage of this ordinance, and of its requirements.
