The Hillsboro' Recorder explains that the
last year's expenses of the road were not included in the President's
Annual Report. The Report "was not received until the second day of the
meeting; and instead of being carefully prepared and printed, as on
former occasions, it was made up in much haste amid the multiplied cares
and duties pressing upon him as Colonel of the regiment which he was
zealously laboring to prepare to enter upon active duty in the field. In
consequence of these interruptions the report did not embrace the
expenses of the year, but expressed in general terms that the expenses
had been considerably increased in consequence of needed repairs -- the
replacement of sills, railroad iron, &c. -- and consequently no dividend
could be made." |
