The {Richmond &} Danville
Railroad |
A highly respectable correspondent of
Halifax complains that the Danville Railroad charges freight on every
box and package contributed for the comfort and aid of the soldiers, and
the sick and wounded. We believe the roads generally have allowed those
gifts of the patriotic and philanthropic to pass untaxed, and we think
very properly. |
Richmond Dispatch |
|
Have they? It is news this way. Indeed,
some time ago a party from this place was subjected to great annoyance
in Petersburg by a refusal to carry such things even for pay, at any
price, except by a freight train, which would involve a delay of two
days; and notwithstanding other freight was received to go to Richmond
by the same passenger train. Finally a telegraphic dispatch to Richmond
secured their transportation. |
