Killed |
A furloughed soldier from Catawba County,
on his way to his regiment, was killed by the cars at our depot Friday
evening week. Several trains were about starting South and East {on
the North Carolina RR}, and
this man, whose name we cannot ascertain, sprang on the train moving
East, on which there was a regiment of South Carolinians. It is
reported that the South Carolinians told him he could not get on that
train, and that a struggle ensured between them in which he was
pushed, or fell off, and was caught in the break and dragged over the
cross ties. Others say he was drinking, and fell in attempting to get
on the platform. |
His remains were sent back to Catawba
Saturday morning. |
