The Northeastern Railroad train, due here at 10 a. m.,
did not arrive yesterday until after 10 p. m. The detention was caused
by a collision, on Thursday evening, three miles beyond Kingstree,
between an express train, going up with box cars for negros to work on
the coast, and an express train, coming down with Col. Cash's regiment
of reserves. Fortunately, only three of the soldiers were slightly hurt;
but the two locomotives were so damaged that they could not move; and
the down mail train this morning had to return to Florence and telegraph
to Charleston for assistance to remove the obstruction on the road. |
