The Northeastern Railroad Train was behind
time in its arrival yesterday, and this has been a usual occurrence for
the past few weeks. The detention yesterday was caused by a want of wood
at some of the regular stations, the train having to wait while the
hands cut wood to supply the furnace. Among the passengers were several
mothers, with infant babies in their arms, who were obliged to sit in a
car with the thermometer below zero, without a fire. Surely the
Direction of the road might, with a little energy, procure wood enough
sufficient to relieve them from such inconvenience -- and, we might add,
inhumanity. |
