Now that the cold weather is
approaching, we would remind the planters on the immediate lines of
our railroads that donations of wood will be very acceptable to the
Wayside Home, and, in this connection, we would mention that the Home
is under innumerable obligations to each of our railroads -- the
Charleston & Savannah, Northeastern and South Carolina -- each of
whom promptly and gratuitously conveys all supplies for the Home,
whether it be provisions or fuel. Were a few of our patriotic planters
at each station to club together, they might, with very little
inconvenience to themselves, and very great benefit to the Home, mass
a few car loads of wood, which, by notifying any of the conductors,
will be called for at the earliest opportunity. On reaching the depot
in the city, Captain Chas. W. Simons, who has always afforded the Home
every assistance in his power, will, with his usual promptitude and
courtesy, have the wood alluded to its place of destination. To the
railroads mentioned, the Southern Express Company and Captain Simons,
the Wayside Home is under many obligations. |
