Freshet Above -- Trains Delayed |
The Nashville Banner of Wednesday says
that information from Wartrace, on the Nashville & Chattanooga
road, was received on Tuesday, stating that the creeks and rivers in
this section were quite over their banks, and that one of the road
bridges was washed away by the waters a few miles beyond Wartrace
Station. This was the cause of the delay of the trains on Tuesday. It
will be necessary for some time to run trains from Chattanooga and
Nashville, meeting at the point where the bridge has given way, for
the transportation of passengers and the mails. The recent heavy rains
have been general and the mountain rivers and creeks have swollen to
such an extent, as to make the supposition of an overflow here almost
a certainty. |
