Accident |
The night train on the South Carolina Rail
Road, Sunday evening, ran off the track about twelve miles below
Columbia, and detained the passengers at that point until next
morning. One young man, Mr. Avei?he, was seriously hurt, and brought
to this city on a hand car by Dr. Pelzer, who, assisted by Dr. Fair,
amputated the patient's limb on Monday morning. He reports him as
doing well, and it is hoped he may survive the shock. Several other
persons were bruised, but not severely. A defective cross tie, is is
said, was the sole cause of this accident, the iron being sound. If
so, somebody is to blame. Cross ties certainly can be kept in proper
condition, and renewed as occasion requires. |
