Brunswick & Albany Rail Road {official
name was Brunswick & Florida RR until December, 1861} |
We have just received a
private letter from Mr. Wheeler, the energetic President of the
Brunswick and Albany Railroad, in which he states that the Road is
rapidly progressing, and will shortly reach Waresboro'. The Road then
can easily be completed to Albany within the time heretofore
announced, provided the citizens of our section will interest
themselves in this much desired and important enterprise. A Railroad
has been regarded as an avenue to civilization. They have certainly
made Georgia a strong and prominent State, and the people have grown
rich under their influence. If our citizens would but place a proper
construction upon the importance of this road, and go forward with a
helping hand, either by subscription with money or work, they would
find it a paying investment, and would realize in less than ten years
more than double the amount of their subscriptions. We trust that the
provisional board of directors already appointed, will exert their
influence and energies in the premises, so that satisfactory
arrangements may at once be made to build the road, or entirely
abandon the project. When we make the calculation relative to freights
alone, we will find that it is vastly to our interest to commence and
complete the road. |
