The Board met at the call of the President.

Whereas the Stockholders at
the last annual meeting held in the City of Raleigh on the 14th day of
July last by resolution authorized the Board of Directors to subscribe a
sum not exceeding two hundred thousand dollars stock in the Chatham Rail
Road Company, Therefore, |
Resolved, That this Company
subscribe two hundred thousand dollars to the stock of the Chatham Rail
Road Company, payable in 7.30% notes to the amount of $179,300 and the
balance in 7 & 8% Confederate bonds at par. |
The President read a letter
from A. R. Lawton Quarter Master General proposing that this Company, in
the settlement of its accounts with the Confederate States, accept 3/4
of the amount due to it in the new 4% call certificates secured by
hypothecation of equivalent amounts of the five hundred million to per
cash now taxable bonds; and on motion of Mr. Mebane the President was
authorized to settle as above proposed if better terms cannot be
obtained. |
On motion of Mr. Mebane it was
ordered That the President be authorized to employ such guards as he may
deem expedient to guard the bridges over the Yadkin, Haw Rivers, the
Upper Eno, the Neuse, and Deep River, at the expense of the Company, and
to place at said bridges such fixtures for lights as he may deem
necessary. |
On motion it was ordered, That
the President be authorized to establish a local Express line over this
Road Soon as practicable. |
On motion of Mr Cameron it was
ordered, That the President be authorized to obtain the proper material
for the building of 100 box cars and 30 first and second class coaches. |
On motion of Mr Cameron it was
ordered, That the President be instructed to obtain and report at the
next meeting of the Board, all the facts relative to the collision of
trains, sometime since {July 17, 1864},
between High Point and Jamestown, caused by the negligence of Mr. M. W.
Robison Conductor, and from which collision Mrs Alston lost her life. |
