Major,
   I have made arrangements to increase the supply of corn at Charlotte and it will probably reach {hole in paper} ?borhood of 150,000 bu per month. To move this {hole in paper} energy and skill in the management of {hole in paper} of your watchfulness. It will also be necessary to employ every train that any of the side lines in that part of the State can spare. You may get two trains from W. N. C. RRd {Western North Carolina RR} & one from W. C. & R. Rd {Wilmington, Charlotte & Rutherford RR} and if they can do more than haul the corn there is a supply of long forage to be gathered at Greensboro which will keep them employed. Price is not so much an object as securing the trains, but of course we must get them as low as possible.
   I wish you would take a trip to Charlotte and survey the work and write me fully on the subject.
   The ??? ??? will be taxed heavily also but I have no fear of its success with the aid of the A & NC RRd. {Atlantic & North Carolina RR, Maj. Whitfield's road}
{end of document, definitely written by Sims}
