Sir, |
|
I have received through the Supt. of this Road a letter
from Col Wadley recommending an increase of payment for Government
transportation entirely inadequate to the necessities of this Company &
in disproportion to the relative charges heretofore made to the
Government. |
|
Our expenditures last month over our receipts are about
forty thousand dollars, being greater than the deficiency for either of
the three preceding months. The Government ought not & I suppose do not
desire that the Rail Road should work for them at a loss & we ask them
to allow us for work one half of what we charge individuals. I trust
they will see nothing unjust or unreasonable in it. |
|
Asking your attention to this matter, I remain Respectfully |

|
PS I enclose the letters of Col Wadley. |
