NA, SWR 3/23/1863

Richmond March 23, 1863

Cateby ap R. Jones
Com'g & Ordnance Officer
Charlotte N. C.

Sir,
Paymaster De Bree, C. S. Navy has brought to my attention your letter stating that upon application to the Quarter Master at Charlotte N. C. for transportation you were informed that he was instructed by this office not to furnish transportation for naval supplies.
In regard to this subject, I beg to inform you that the Quarter Master has misconstructed the instructions received by him from this office, as no such orders were never by me.
The Quarter Master General has no control over the Rail Roads, and cannot control their action.
So far as my authority extend, it will afford me pleasure to accommodate the Navy Department whenever in my power.
Very Respectfully
A. C. Myers
Q. M. Genl.
