| I submit herewith a letter from the
Quarter Master Genl, reporting the necessity of taking possession of
the Piedmont R. Road under the ??? of a secret act of Congress, a
copy of which accompanies this letter. In view of the
representations made by the Q. M. G. and of the ??? ??? for lines of
transportation on that road. I recognize the necessity and recommend
that you authorize me to have the impressment made. The ??? ??? at
my request has prepared the accompanying order in conformity with
the law which, if it meets your approbation, I propose to issue. |
