Waynesville Ga Jany 5th 1863

Captain Jas. T. Stewart
A. Q. M.

Captain,
We the undersigned would most respectfully petition your influence against the removing of the RR Iron from the track of the B&A RR {Brunswick & Albany RR} from the canal bridge to Waynesville.
for: it is a matter of absolute necessity "for the benefit of the Government" that the Iron be allowed to remain from Waynesville to the canal bridge.
If this iron is removed it will be impossible to furnish with Rations the command & district of Cao D. L. Clinch stationed below canal bridge. Hoping Capt we may have your hearty co-operation & assistance in this important matter.

I fully concur with the opinions herein expressed and earnestly request that the Road be allowed to remain as it is. I have three Companys dependent upon it.

I hope the Govt will be able to dispense with the iron referred to within. Its removal would very greatly embarrass military operations south of the Altamaha River.

Without this iron the rolling must stop and all attempts to build iron ships, & to complete several now wanting iron must fail. The character of the Road has been thoroughly & carefully considered and its importance to the military defences of the country, from canal bridge to Waynesville some sixteen miles, has not been shown, whereas the iron is of vital importance to the construction of ships.
