 Dr Sr,
In reply to yours enclosing a copy of the orders from QM Genl calling upon us for one half of the unlaid iron on our Road. I beg leave to state that we have about ten miles of iron only and that we are now grading about six miles of our Road from a point in the woods to the town of Morganton an important point on the line of our Road this is being done now at extraordinary cost to us and would greatly enhance the value of the Road and convenience of our western people.
I would therefore respectfully suggest that before taking the iron from this Road which you are aware has contributed so much to facilitate the transportation of Government supplies, the matter be more fully enquired into and ascertain whether the order so far as relates to this cannot be suspended.
I am Respectfully Yours
James C. Turner
