Sir,
   Several of our apprentices and workmen volunteered a year ago, and being very much put up last summer for workmen to keep our engines & cars in repair, I applied to Mr. Benjamin to have them detailed to work for us. This was refused The time of the men is no up, but they are retained in the service by the Conscription Bill. Owing to the great demand of the Government for mechanics, I am still very much straitened for hands, and as we carry a good many troops and large quantities of army stores, I write to ask the favor of you to detail the men I want to work in our shops. I give their names and the service they are in below.
