Having made formal application to Dept Head Quarters for So Ca
Geo and Fla for the renewal of the detail of Private A. Barbot of Co D 27th
S. C. Vols and Private F. Copes of Co B 25th S. C Vols both of which have
been granted subject to your approval, as the Regiments are not now in this
Department. I would respectfully request your favorable consideration of the
same as the men referred to are of much service to us being Finishers by
"Occupation" and essentially necessary for the efficient operations of the
Road in their department. The very heavy Government business done by this
Road require that we make every effort to retain these men in our service
from the fact that even the loss of one man to us now is seriously felt.
Hoping you will consider our application favorably and assuring you we do
not intrude from vain or idle gratification |

Respectfully forwarded approved and the attention of the War Dept invited to
the fact that there are in the Dept a large number of detailed artisans &
experts from the regiments in Hagood's Brigade now in No. Ca. which are
deemed absolutely indispensable for the Ordnance, Arsenal and other Govt
establishments. I have no authority to detail these men but I believe it
would be an irreparable loss to the Govt to withdraw them from present
employments. |
