General Superintendent's Office |
South Carolina Railroad |
Charleston, November 3rd 1862 |

Honl Jas L. Orr |
|
Dear Sir, |
I know your time is very
valuable and I shall make my Communication as brief as possible. |
The South Carolina R. R. Co is
very much in want of the services of a Civil Engineer & Architect, and
the gentleman who will just suit us, and who is willing to accept the
position holds a commission as Lieut in the Lafayette Artillery Corps,
now in service in this state. He has tendered his resignation, but the
Department remains silent and I venture to solicit your influence to
induce early action in that quarter. I assure you My Dear Sir, it is a
matter of considerable importance to us to fill the position without
further delay, and the preference for Mr. Le Bleux is because his
abilities are sufficiently known to warrant the belief that it could not
be filled than by him. Hoping that you are in the enjoyment of good
health, and that you will do what you can to effect the object in need,
I am dear Sir Yours &c |

Sir, |
I know the writer of this
letter well he is the Genl Supt. of the S.. Ca RR and his request is
entitled to respectful consideration. He is a man of character and is
now one of the Members of the Legislature from Charleston. He is
thoroughly loyal to our cause & the road he superintends is everything
to Charleston -- in transporting troops & supplies. I therefore
recommend that the resignation of Lt LeBleux be accepted. |
Yours &c |
