Sir,
   Yours of the 14th inst is just to hand.
   The Comptrollers Statement therewith enclosed is obviously incorrect. The voucher referred to is on the other hand entirely correct.
   I call your attention to the following extracts
"Voucher No. 1 Bill of Roanoke Valley R. R. Co. 272 815/2240 tons iron at $200, is extended $54,763.00 should be $54672.76"
   This is incorrect, for such a calculation would give $54472.76.
   But the voucher is not for "272 815/2240" tons but for 273.815 i.e. for two hundred and seventy three tons and eight hundred and fifteen thousandths of a ton. The calculation is thus
273.815
           200
54,763.00
   Hoping that the explanation will prove satisfactory.
