The only difficulty that I am cognizant of in the
transportation of troops over the Wilmington road, is the want of
punctuality in the arrival of trains at this point from Wilmington.
Until to day no unnecessary detention has occurred here at all. Mr.
Fremont makes a misrepresentation, when he says that he can carry
3000 men per day. He has failed to do so up to this time at all
events. The troops are sent forward as fast as they arrive, and in
the most expeditious way possible. Both roads {Wilmington
& Weldon RR and Raleigh & Gaston RR} are taking them.
I am unadvised of any efforts being made to send Mr Fremonts trains
over the Raleigh Road. There has most assuredly been no effort on my
part to do anything of the kind. Mr Fremonts statement in regard to
transportation is in full keeping with the man, from all accounts
that I have & hear of him.
