General,
   I am directed by Genl. Lee, commanding, to say to you that there are a large number of recruits and furloughed men belonging to General Jackson's Army now detained at Charlottesville for want of transportation, and to ask if you cannot spare a sufficient number of the cars accumulated at Gordonsville for the purpose of enabling them to move forward. As the arms for these troops are at Staunton it will be necessary for them to take that place en route. Col. Myers Qr. Mr. General has also been communicated with on this subject. {Virginia Central RR}
