Capt W. H. McMain   {Probably in Macon, Ga.}

Sir,
   The delay in not getting eny Lime through since I wrote you last is caused by the evacuation of Montgomery. every available car was ordered to that point & it has been impossible to get a car since. I send with this a certificate which I made the man in charge of the cars at this point give me this morning.
   My object in remaining here is to get the cars as soon as the stores are all removed from Montgomery which is about done. The yankees are in 10 miles of that city. I think I will get some cars to morrow or next day
Very Respectfully
J. V. Carter
{Columbus to Macon would be over the Muscogee RR and the South Western RR}
