Hon J. A. Seddon
Secretary of War

Sir,
I find it very difficult to get six miles of iron yet to be provided for the Piedmont road.
There are three miles of iron near Fredericksburg on this side of the Rappahannock {Richmond, Fredericksburg & Potomac RR}, which I can procure, if I could get from two to four wagons. These I have yet been unable to find.
I hope you will point out some way in which I can get them.
Very respectfully
Your obt Servt
