   List of Articles lost or destroyed in the public service at Meridian Miss, while in the possession and charge of Capt. S. F. Pennington A. Q. M. in the month of February 1864
No & Quantity Articles Cause & Circumstance
(48) Forty-eight Pairs of Pants The foregoing articles of Q. M. property were ordered by the Chf Q. M. of the Department to be removed from Meridian Miss the day previous to the evacuation of the place. They were transported by R. R. to Gainesville Ala, thence to Selma Ala via Mobile & Montgomery. During the transit they were stolen, some were destroyed through the carelessness of R. R. & Steam boat employees and through the impossibility of procuring storage room

(311) Three hundred & eleven Pairs of drawers
(43) Forty three Pairs of Shoes
(1) One Pairs of Booties
(4) Four Hats
(120) One hundred & twenty Yards of Oil Cloth
 
   I certify that the several articles of Quarter Masters Stores, above enumerated, have been unavoidably lost or destroyed while in the public service, as indicated by the remarks annexed to them respectively.
