Dear Sir, |
I have a trunk full of claims now reported
on, and ready to send to Richmond. I have been waiting for the
railroad to be completed or, I would have sent, or taken them sooner.
Will it be safe to send them by mail. If you so direct me, I will
forward them forthwith, or if you will furnish me transportation
&c to Richmond and back, I will take them. Be kind enough to
advise me on the subject, at your earliest convenience. |
Respectfully |

{Which railroad needs to be
completed (repaired?) is uncertain. A massive storm in late
January had damaged many railroads in Virginia and North Carolina.
Lebanon was a few miles northwest of the Virginia & Tennessee RR,
in the general vicinity of Bristol. After traveling on the Virginia
& Tennessee RR, the most likely route to Richmond would have been
on the South Side RR and then the Richmond & Danville RR.} |
