| Please take charge of the car load of
potatoes & and go to Petersburgh. Gov Vance has telegraphed to Gen
Seales to appoint an officer to receive the potatoes & distribute them
to the N. C. troops at Petersburgh. He has not heard from him but he
orders you to go on dispose of the potatoes in this way. You had better
get Gen Seales approval of your receipt, so as to let it appear that you
have obeyed orders. If possible bring you boys back with you as we wish
them to send the next car load with. I have telegraphed the Pres of the
Danville road {Piedmont RR and Richmond & Danville
RR} that you were at Greensboro with the car. See if Maj Sloan
will not get transportation for you if not your transportation will pass
in Va, if not pay the freight. |
