| We have the honor to recommend for
appointment in the Engineer Corps with the rank of Capt. Abner S.
Gaines of Mississippi, now in the Confederate Service as Civil Engr.
to superintend the construction of the R. Rd. from Selma Ala. to
Meridian Miss. |
| The intelligent and efficient character of
Mr. Gaines in this last service is known to the Sey. and we put well assured
from our knowledge of his skill as a Civil Engr. that he will be
equally capable with short ??? as an Engr. in the Military Corps. We
respectfully solicit his appointment. |
